When you are experiencing tooth pain or another dental emergency, all you want is for someone to help you feel better. Fortunately, your dental professionals in Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint provide dental emergency services for you and your family. If you need a group of emergency dentists to help you, North Idaho Dental Group is just a phone call away.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

If you are experiencing any of the following, you are experiencing a dental emergency, and we want you to call our office immediately:

  • Severe tooth pain – If your tooth pain is keeping you from functioning normally, you could have a large cavity or an infection, and we need to see you in the office.
  • Dental trauma – If you have sustained an injury to your tooth or your tooth has been knocked out, we need to see you quickly to try to repair or replace your tooth.
  • Lost dental crown or filling – Even if you aren’t experiencing pain, you need to call us if you lose a dental crown or a filling. If you aren’t seen by a dentist soon after you lose the crown or filling, you could sustain further damage to your tooth.
  • Root canal infection or dental abscess – If you have severe pain in your tooth or jaw, swelling near the tooth, any sort of discharge, or a bad taste in your mouth, you could have a severe infection, and we need to see you as quickly as possible.

What Can You Do Until You See a Dentist?

Here are some tips to follow until you can get a dental appointment:

  • Use a cold compress and over-the-counter pain relievers to help with discomfort.
  • Swish warm salt water around in your mouth.
  • Hold a knocked-out tooth by the top; do not touch the tooth’s root. Keep your tooth between your cheek and gums until you reach our office, or place your tooth in milk. Never put your tooth in water.
  • Bring a lost crown or filling with you to your emergency appointment.
